Product Standards

All Supreme Steel Pipe products are manufactured to internationally recognized standards — ASTM, PNS, and AWWA.

This reference covers applicable standards, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, and unit conversion formulas used across our product line.

Key Pipe Dimensions Explained

NPS

Nominal Pipe Size

Refers to the size of the pipe by name rather than actual dimensions.

OD

Outside Diameter

The actual measured diameter across the exterior of the pipe.

ID

Inside Diameter

The diameter of the hollow part of the pipe, determining flow capacity.

Wall Thickness

The measurement between the ID and the OD, determining strength.

Applicable Standards

ASTM A-53

American Society for Testing and Materials

Standard specification for pipe, steel, black and hot-dipped, zinc-coated, welded and seamless.

Applicable to: Supreme Steel Pipe Superior Pipe Tri-R Pipe Strux

PNS 26 V.2018

Philippine National Standard

Covers ERW black and galvanized iron pipes for general plumbing and structural use in the Philippine market.

Applicable to: Supreme Steel Pipe Superior Pipe Tri-R Pipe Supreme Red

PNS 2145 V.2020

Philippine National Standard

Covers lightweight structural steel tubes such as fence and structural tubes. Not for water use.

Applicable to: Strux

ASTM A252

American Society for Testing and Materials

Standard specification for welded and seamless steel pipe piles.

Applicable to: Regan Industrial SSAW/LSAW

ASTM A139

American Society for Testing and Materials

Standard specification for electric-fusion arc-welded steel pipe for use in high-pressure transmission systems.

Applicable to: Regan Industrial SSAW/LSAW

AWWA C200

American Water Works Association

Standard for steel water pipe, 6 inch and larger, for water transmission and distribution systems.

Applicable to: Regan Industrial SSAW/LSAW

Tolerances & Coating

± 0.40 mm Outside Diameter (OD)
± 12.50% Wall Thickness (WT)
76 – 85 μ Avg. Zinc-Coating
i
Zinc Coating Note

Average zinc-coating thickness of 76–85μ ensures corrosion resistance meeting PNS 26:2018 requirements for galvanized iron pipe.

Unit Conversion Guide

Unit Weight Calculation Method

API & ASTM Standards

W = 10.68 (D − t) × t
  • W = Weight per unit length (lb/ft)
  • t = Wall thickness of pipe (in.)
  • D = Outside diameter of pipe (in.)
  • Note: Result rounded to a three-figure number.

BS Standards

W = 10.68 (D − t) × t
  • W = Weight per unit length (lb/ft)
  • t = Wall thickness of pipe (in.)
  • D = Outside diameter of pipe (in.)

Conversion of Units

Standard Formula Note
API Standards W (lb/ft) × 0.453592 = W (kg/ft) 2 decimal places
BS Standards W (lb/ft) × 0.453592 = W (kg/ft) 3-figure number
ASTM Standards S (lb/ft) × 0.45359237 = W (kg/ft) 3-figure number
Length (ft → m) L (ft) × 0.3048 = L (m)
Length (ft → mm) 1(ft) × 25.4 = 1" (mm)
